All their big hits and a very energic performance,
Simple Minds are an amazing live band with a glorious catalogue of songs dating back to the late 70s. They are enthusiastic and very giving live performers. Montreal audiences really give a lot of love too!
The venue was perfect. Simple Minds rocked the show!!! No opening band which was great as we got two solid sets. Sound check was a great experience too!!!
A magical evening was spent with Simple Minds and I don't how many Montrealers who just went crazy for them! Jim Kerr's voice is like honey! It sounds even better than before. They went over their greatest hits and it was just awesome. They had a lot of energy and so did the crowd! Hope they don't wait 20 years to come back!
been a big minds fan for 32 yrs, first time seen them in canada, fantastic performance would like to see to see them back in the larger venues, thought the crowd was great. was glad they did a good selection of early songs, new gold dream really lifted the roof
Well worth the wait, great energy, great songs, great band
The music is outstanding. Every member of the band is great and they play well and compliment each other very well. The only thing I would change is to put the strobe lights behind the drummer instead of in front of. My wife has never seen them before and said it was the best concert she has ever been to. The audience was really into the music!
From the moment Simple Minds hit the stage, it was obvious to all that it would be a great night! With a fantastic mixture of both new and old material, the night was electric. The only downside was not everyone was into it, case in point, the sprinkle of folks who felt the need to yell for others to sit down so they could watch the "concert" from a seated position. With all due respect to those folks, if you plan on attending a concert where people enjoy standing up and dancing to the music (this is very common at most concerts!), perhaps staying home and enjoying it from the confines of your couch would suit you much better....stop being a drag on those who like to enjoy a concert for what it is, especially when the band asks us to stand up!
It was well worth the wait for this band to come back to Toronto. The sound was huge and the band was energetic!
Good concert although the music did tend to drown out Jim Kerr's voice a fair bit and the quality of sound was not the best. Plus the tempo of the songs seemed a bit slowed down compared to previous - maybe to accommodate their energy. (Remember it has been 10yrs since touring) Jim left out a few high notes to the crowd. Second half of the show was better with more audience participation.
What a great show! Jim Kerr sounded great as he sang most of Simple Minds' hits. "Waterfront" near the beginning of the show was fantastic and closing with "Alive and Kicking" was spectacular. Surprisingly, "Don't You (Forget About Me)" wasn't the last song - it was maybe the 5th from the end - but was still unforgettable. I'm so happy that I had an opportunity to see this iconic band.
When I saw that Simple Minds were coming to N. America finally after decades of not touring across the pond I was stoked!!! I got into SM about 5 years ago and they have been a favorite of mine ever since. I am 33, born in 1980, and have zero friends that understand my affinity towards 80's music. I never thought Id get the chance to see Waterfront LIVE but that dream came true on Tuesday night at Massey Hall in Toronto. I just want to Thank SM for making the trek to N. America after so long to make my dream come true!
Band was enjoyable but tje instruments overwhelmed the vocals. They did play all 5he old favourites for us old folks
Simple Minds is a great band but the acoustics at Massey Hall aren't that great. It is a charming place but an update is necessary. Had a great evening overall and I know I will be back at some point. Hope an improvement has been made by that time!
I have to admit that there is something very unique about a band that has a 30+ history behind them. Don't get me wrong, I love the talent and energy of young up and coming bands. That said, the music catalogue Simple Minds carries with them is impressive on it's own, with albums like New Gold Dream and Sparkle In the Rain, they captured a very unique sound that is truly all their own. I felt the band was really tight and kept a good constant flow of energy throughout the entire show. The sound quality was sharp, and the range of songs chosen reflected their diverse styles very well. Metropolis is one of my favorite venues, I personally do not believe people should ever be sitting down (unless for special needs) during a concert for bands like Simple Minds. It's a great way to get a good feel for the band, and the band the audience, much of that gets lost in stadium tours. I personally hope they come back to tour in small venues again. Great show, loved it.
Simple Minds is still a top band, and as they return to a place that liked them since the beggining they did an excellent concert. Jim Kerr still have lots of charisma and Charlie Burchill is still a great guitarist, and Mel Gaynor is still of the best drummer of rock ! Their new band is great too ! They played all the hits like Alive and Kicking, Don’t you forget about me and someone somewhere in summertime !
Simple Minds was really unforgettable !!! Good songs and to see!!
The scotish singer Jim Kerr, even taht his voice wasen't like in the 80's & 90's, he was carismatic and happy to be there.
Very good vibe and set up. You could tell they enjoyed playing for us that evening.
After 27 years, Simple Minds finally came back to Montreal. What an amazing treat that concert was ! Imagine getting to see live, one of your favorite bands knocking out song after song and sounding the same as they did 30 years ago ! Better yet ! In an amazing venue like Metropolis whereby the 2,300 capacity gives you the impression that you were invited to a large private party put on by the band. It was an amazing and very memorable evening and you could tell the Jim (lead singer) was touched by the very warm welcome and participate of the crowd. Thank you Simple Minds and thank you fans of Montreal !
