the folk festival is truly a well oiled machine - the thousands of volunteers are friendly, knowledgable and FUN! the atmosphere of bird's hill simply cannot be described without using cliched words like "love, harmony and peace" - another year of amazing memories is in the books! and the food is absolutely delicious! daytime stages are well run, and as usual, i found many, many new bands to follow. the performers are accessible, and the magic felt by attendees is missed throughout the rest of the year. favourite acts this year include Parsonsfield (wow!), the Wainwright Sisters (unreal harmonies!), Loudon Wainwright (of course), the Crooked Brothers (always a hit), Possessed by Paul James (fantastic!!), the Hooten Hallers (crazy!), Colin Hay, Ben Caplan, the Infamous Stringdusters, Foggy Hogtown Boys, Brothers Comatose and about 10 or 12 more. great, great line-up and i've got new CD's to prove it!! tickets go on sale in november - yes!!!!
Excellent program - Around the World in a Day - Sunday 11:00 am Green Ash with Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Yemen Blues and Les Noces Gitanes. The three diverse groups jammed on EVERY piece - Fabulous concert
An excellent festival. Great way to experience new artist and music.
I found the festival itself to be very good, however the RV camp ground was too far away from the festival site. The worst part was that you had to cart all of your camping gear in by hand. It was way too far and exhausting drag everything by hand. There was 5 of us and it took three trips from the parking lot using dollies and grocery carts to haul our stuff. It took three hours to do this and then we had to set everything up. I found this whole process extreme and unnecessary. Walking to and from our campsite also became exhausting. It was approx. 2 kms each way. We ask over 20 volunteers between us if there was a shuttle to and from the camp sites to the festival site and we were all told that the only shuttle was to Winnipeg. By fluke I ended up talking to a bus driver who informed me that in fact there was shuttles running every 30 minutes to and from the sites! This was at the end of day 2 before we found this out. The shuttles were life savers! Now that I have experienced this, I would either have an RV next time or use the Provincial campground where you can drive in to your camping spot.
This man is incredible! I had no idea who he was and watched at least a piece of all 3 of his performances. So good.
First folk fest with the family. Folker for life!!
Music, location, food and weather were excellent!!
We went to this year's Folk Fest not knowing anyone but Arlo Guthrie. As usual, found lots of music and artists we really loved! Really appreciate more shady areas that are being developed so we can beat the heat. Always good food at reasonable prices too. Only complaint - main stage volume was too loud for us old fogies! Would like to hear some folk music on mainstage for long shows- not just the tweeners who were often true folkies. All in all, well done and well organized.
This workshop was amazing. To see the different performers playing together up close and personal was great. Peole were dancing and it was well organized. Lots of audience participation. You just had to get up and move. Great workshop.
