About
NRBQ IN CONCERT:
The boogie masters of NRBQ give ticket buyers plenty of reasons to get down with their funky grooves and eclectic style in concert. Falling somewhere between the limber flexibility of a jam band and the finely polished precision of a jazz ensemble, the group blends everything from R&B and country to ragtime and blues, treating fans to a carefree, anything-goes vibe. Keyboardist extraordinaire Terry Adams leads the band through each adventurous shift in style, and his lightning-fast runs are enough to make audience members’ jaws drop. All the brilliant and dynamic style changes ensure fans are in for a stunning musical journey and a truly one-of-a-kind experience anytime NRBQ perform.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The New Rhythm and Blues Quartet, or NRBQ for short, originally started in 1965 as a way for Terry Adams (keyboards) and his brother Donn (trombone) to rehearse in their Shivley, KY home. Though the group’s membership has shifted frequently since their self-titled 1969 debut, Terry has remained a constant touring and recording member, while Donn’s horn arrangements have also been a regular fixture both in concert and in the studio. The group's profile rose between 1998-2001 when Simpsons showrunner Mike Scully—a devoted NRBQ fan—found ways to incorporate the band into the popular program's script. Unfortunately, the band was forced into a temporary hiatus in 2004 after Terry Adams was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer, but even that couldn’t keep him away for long. He returned in 2011 and resumed the band's busy touring and recording schedule. More than 30 albums and countless satisfied concertgoers later, NRBQ remain just as fun and inventive as ever.
